Flu or flu like symptoms can be extremely debilitating and there can be many causes, not just a virus.
Probably at the top of the list of the worse symptoms is tiredness or weakness. And the next one would be some form of body - muscular or bone - ache.
In this condition, it’s likely you’re running a fever, any fever including gastric influenza and septic fever.
So the remedy under discussion this week has an indescribably sick feeling all over, that often accompanies flu.
You’re restless, just can’t find a comfortable position.
Typical of plant remedies, the onset is sudden - over a few hours rather than days.
There’s a putridness about your body discharges - breath, stool, sweat. This shows there’s a septic state (infection). present
You can find breathing difficult, with a sense of suffocation.
With all this going on, you wouldn’t expect to be very active - in fact you’re prostrated.
Your face is often dusky or red showing congestion.
Mental sensations are very telling as you feel as if your body parts are scattered about the bed.
Another telling symptom is the besotted look on your face - you’re confused, bewildered, sleepy, can’t focus, fall asleep while talking.
You may only be able to swallow liquids as you gag with solid food or feel constricted in your throat or at the entrance to the stomach.
The remedy is called Baptisia and is made from the wild indigo found in North America. It’s a legume.
Primarily it acts on the blood, addressing septic conditions, fevers, including malaria.
The keynotes of Baptisia are
- rapid onset of fever (Aconite, Belladonna)
- indescribably sick feeling
- putrid, offensive smell to body discharges - sepsis, septicaemia
- prostration (Arsenicum album)
- muscular soreness, bruised pain, can’t get comfortable (Arnica)
- dusky face
- besotted, confused expression, even coma
- feels suffocated
- sensation body parts are scattered
- sleepy, falls asleep while talking
- can only swallow liquids
This remedy has a great influence on reversing the ill effects of typhoid serum vaccinations.
When looking for a good remedy, use the three legged stool method. My bullet point list gives the main keynotes of any remedy. You only need three symptoms (which are strong) to decide to give this remedy, with a good chance it’s the right one.
For instance if you had a fever, was very sleepy, couldn’t keep awake even to tell your symptoms and you could swallow water but gagged on solid food, that would be good enough to try this remedy.
But as there are some strong similarities with other remedies, as indicated, so you want an unusual symptom to use this remedy, such as body parts feel scattered, falls asleep mid-sentence or dusky face for at least one leg of the three legged stool.
Four doses of a 30c potency over an hour, will tell you whether or not the remedy is working. Keep going if it is, change to another if nothing is happening. Animals will usually make it clear, by body language, if it’s the right remedy ot not.
