Shirley treats Mastitis
14th October 2009

Fred had told Shirley, his wife, about his last homeopathic success. He was beginning to think this was fun. She had the “I told you so.” look and tone, but underneath she was very pleased about his interest.

Shirley was breast feeding their daughter. To start with, things had gone well. But recently she had been experiencing some pain when the baby nursed. Although both breasts were sore on nursing, the right one was worse.

Initially, she hadn’t done anything about it, but now the pain was getting worse and she dreaded feeding time. She didn’t want to give up though, as the benefits to the baby were too good.

She brought out the homoeopathic first aid kit, thankful that Fred hadn’t taken it to work. At this rate, she mused, they’d need two.

Knowing she needed to be very aware of her symptoms, Shirley jotted down what she could:

  1. pain worse nursing and right side
  2. pain like a throb
  3. tender to touch
  4. engorged, swollen breasts with too much milk
  5. breasts feel heavy and hard
  6. red streaks radiate away from the nipple

and she was beginning to wonder if she was going down with a fever. Great, just what you need with a baby, she thought.

Thank goodness for easy to read instructions, she thought, as a quick read brought her to the remedy Belladonna.

She took a dose. Half an hour later, she took another dose. Not long after, she started to feel really tired. “I could go to bed”, she thought. She had a lot to do that day, but decided this took priority.

Shirley was getting good at looking after herself. She realised she needed to be in top form, to be able to give her best to her family. It wasn’t selfish to look after yourself first. It was sensible. She’d recently heard of a saying “you can only share if your cup is full”, which made a lot of sense to her. Well, her cup was half empty at the moment.

She had vowed never to be like her mother, who had always put the family before herself, and now was a bitter and unhappy woman.

She slept soundly for an hour, waking up just before her daughter decided it was feeding time. She didn’t even think about her mastitis, until half way through the feed.

I’m feeling pretty good, she thought. The fever seems to have gone. Looking down at her breasts, they weren’t streaky any more. Or hard. Or tender.

Wow!

Shirley took a couple more doses over the course of the day, as she felt the symptoms started to return. By the following day, she was back to normal.

And, as a bonus, her supply of milk now seemed to match her baby’s demands. It wasn’t gushing out as before.

She couldn’t wait to tell Fred of her experience, when he got home.

Dairy cows are particularly susceptible to mastitis, but any lactating animal can have it. The signs are just the same as listed above. Fever with heat, streaky mammae, painful let down, painful on touch, hard to touch, often engorged, with too much milk.

Thought of the Week

Acquire the courage to believe in yourself. Many of the things that you have been taught were at one time the radical ideas of individuals who had the courage to believe what their own hearts and minds told them was true, rather than accept the common beliefs of their day.

Family Owe Their Lives to Their Dog

In Ulutogia WSPA's Disaster Relief and Assessment team met one extremely lucky family. Their family's three dwellings had been completely levelled by the tsunami.

Thanks to the family dog they all escaped unharmed. "We owe our lives to that dog" a man told WSPA New Zealand's Bridget Vercoe, pointing to a dog sitting nearby. Laumoli - which means leaves of orange tree - sensed the water coming and started barking consistently.

"I went to see what had scared the dog and saw a wave coming. I yelled to my family, ran to the house and grabbed my two young children. We then followed the dog up the hill to our neighbours. We all ran. Now we are all alive. All our houses are gone, but we are here."

Vibrancy Through a Healthy Diet

Despite your best efforts at trying to achieve a good diet, you will be hampered in some ways.

  • most of the food you eat is bought, allowing some nutrients to be lost in the storing
  • most foods are grown for looks rather than quality
  • cooking foods destroy the all important enzymes
  • most diets contain too much animal protein, which doesn’t match your evolutionary history
  • modern life is pretty stressful to most
  • the world is a lot more toxic than it used to be

I dislike talking about nutrients, as really it’s food we should be thinking about. But there is one fairly remarkable nutrient which:

  • has natural cleansing abilities, so helps eliminate toxins
  • helps increase the amount of oxygen available to your cells
  • improves assimilation of amino acids, so making the whole digestive tract more healthy

Chlorophyll is responsible for all this.

Blue green algae is one of the highest known sources of chlorophyll. Along with the other benefits of being high in virtually all the minerals, vitamins, amino acids and other nutrients, this is a whole food, in natural balance, so is easily absorbed and utilised. Any excess is easily discarded.

It retains a high level of enzymes, which are essential to the digestion and absorption of food.

Keeping your system clear of toxins, with adequate nutrients, will not only improve your digestive tract, but also your immune system.

The best source of blue green algae that I know of is Lake Klamath in Oregon, US. This is a pristine lake, fed by mineral rich streams. How much better can you get?

Crystal Sweet Algae harvests the algae from Lake Klamath and dries it quickly, so retaining the majority of its goodness.

Other natural substances which help clear toxins are coriander (Cilantro) and zeolite, a negatively charged, highly absorbent from of clay.
