This week, one of my cats went off his food. I don’t worry about that normally, if it’s just for a couple of meals and there are no other symptoms. But he was sleeping a lot, curled up in the garden. I gave him a couple of remedies while I pondered the problem.

He continued to fast and sleep, but then I saw him walking and a back leg was lame. On checking it over, it seemed slightly sore and swollen, but not enough to make him so lame.

He started to wash the affected part and suddenly the reason was obvious. By washing the area, he had exposed two close marks, indicative of a bite. Unlikely to be a snake bite as we’re in the middle of winter. More likely a rodent bite.

A rodent bite can go on to blood poisoning quite quickly and his problem had certainly become systemic (indicated by him not eating and low energy).

So I gave him a few doses of Hypericum. He immediately started eating again. Within hours, he was walking more or less normally. Within a couple of days, he was back to his normal self.

Hypericum is a remedy for old (days) bites or other puncture wounds. It prevents or heals sepsis including tetanus, as long as the symptoms fit.

Pains experienced after injury which need this remedy are normally sharp, spiky or shooting pains, like an electric shock. This indicates a nerve has been damaged.

And Hypericum is also the number one remedy for nerve damage,

The keynotes of Hypericum are:

  • bites or other puncture wounds
  • prevents or heals infection, including tetanus
  • ailments after puncture wounds (including bites, spinal taps, epidurals, vaccination)
  • sharp or shooting pains after injury
  • pain as of tooth pain
  • injury to nerves (including concussion, back injuries especially to the coccyx)

This is a regularly used remedy in every homoeopathic practice for new and old injuries alike. Make sure you have some.

Homoeopathy doesn’t just mean potency, as many people think. It means finding the remedy that you need right now, in any form. It can be a food, a colour, even a stone, as well as a potentised remedy. As long as it matches your symptoms and is curative.

I recently attended an amazing seminar, given by a world class Sydney based homoeopath who uses gems a lot in his prescribing - with outstanding results. People who use crystals are aware of their profound healing qualities, but care should be taken with them. They are powerful and can cause harm, too, if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Big diamonds are especially known for their power, often negative. So if you always hankered after a big diamond but can’t afford one, be thankful!

However, here’s a great tip if you regularly suffer from tension in your shoulders from too much stress, juggling work, family, home. Headaches can be common and you may have problems with people at work. You may suffer eye strain from too much mental and computer work.

Buy yourself some Carnelian and wear it. It’s low cost (about AU$12). You may find the tension evaporates and the situations diffuse....

Homeopathic Alternatives to Antibiotics
Homeopathic medicine actually gained its greatest popularity primarily due to its impressive successes in the treatment of infectious diseases in the 19th century. The death rates in American and European homeopathic hospitals from cholera, scarlet fever, typhoid, and yellow fever were typically two to eight times less by percentage than those in conventional hospitals (Bradford, 1900; Ullman, 2007). As a result of these successes, at the turn of the 20th century there were over 100 homeopathic hospitals and 22 homeopathic colleges, including Boston University, University of Michigan, New York Medical College, and Hahnemann College of Medicine.

Have you ever wondered if there is an energetic link between the quality of the food you eat and your health?
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that it’s not possible to have good health if you’re eating food that comes from cruel treatment of farm animals or crops grown by poisoning the earth.

Going free range or certified organic is well worth the little extra cost.

Did you know that -
Chickens are Smart and Social
Yet there are nearly half a billion chickens imprisoned in factory farms in Australia every year. Battery hens who lay ‘cage eggs’ are given a living space smaller than one A4 sheet of paper, while ‘meat’ chickens grow so unnaturally fast that many are crippled before they are sent to slaughter at just six weeks of age....

Zinc is one of the most important minerals and we’re often low in it. Diet and stress can reduce levels unacceptably.

Equally, too much Zinc can cause low copper and iron absorption, making you anaemic. Isolated zinc supplements (normally synthetic or mineral base) run the risk of over-dosing and being out of natural balance with other nutrients.

Zinc helps:

  • maintain healthy vision and reduces the risk of age-related macular degeneration
  • to boost the immune system, means fewer health issues
  • reduce inflammation
  • prevent respiratory problems, such as colds and flu, even pneumonia

Zinc occurs naturally and in balance with other nutrients in most animal proteins, beans, nuts, whole grains, pumpkin and sunflower seeds and a good quality spirulina/blue-green algae, such as the one detailed in the right hand column.
